Texas Instruments Debuts Thought-Controlled Wheelchair

December 5th, 2007 · No Comments

Texas Instruments, the Texas-based company that makes a large number of the calculators used in schools across the state, has debuted a motorized wheelchair that responds to thought.

The wheelchair, developed by Ambient Corp, is guided by thought and movement of the adam’s apple. Even when no sound is made, the wheelchair can interpret movement of the larynx into directions. This system, called Audeo, features the MSP 430 microcontroller produced by Texas Instruments.

The wheelchair was shown off at a special conference called by TI in Bangalore, India.
